Understanding Stillness

The rushing sound of steady traffic from the distant highway
The dogs barking across the valley
Other than that, total stillness.
An acorn hits the roof of the barn and loudly rolls to the ground.

How is it possible that by stopping everything,
keeping the body still, the mind silent, the senses alert,
all the love I could ever need surrounds me.

It seems impossible to take this feeling out into the world
yet that doesn’t make this any less real, any less valuable.
This: the meeting of heart with soul.
