Try this simple exercise.

Think of a feeling that you are having, either now, or earlier today. Some emotion that really hooked you. As you feel the emotion, say to yourself, I am not that anger, or whatever the emotion is. "I am not that. Who am I?" See if you can feel some part of you that is just aware of the emotion, that is not really affected by it, the part that is asking the question, Who am I? Sit quietly, watching the emotion, and then watch who is watching. Ask yourself, Who am I? Who is the one who is asking this question?
